Are you Wishing your Life Away?

Do you ever find yourself in a bit of a rut and wishing the hours away?

I do . . . more often than I care to admit.

I do this when I am at work. I work Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays. And every single Monday and Tuesday, I wish for it to be Wednesday, when I can put my Mom hat on and be at home with my girls. On Thursdays, I wish for it to be Friday, when I can, again, put my Mom hat on and be at home with my girls. When the weekend arrives, that is probably the only time I don’t wish for the time to go faster, but I wish for the clock to stop (I’m so indecisive, aren’t I?)

I wonder if I did something more creative in my job, then perhaps I wouldn’t wish for the time to fly by. I wonder if I painted or wrote or created in my job, then I would spend my off days wishing to be at work.

Hmmmmm . . .

Create.

I remember that word.

Do you?

That word was supposed to be my Word of the Year for 2010.

Create.

What happened?

Where did you go?

You came out a few times in the past 9 months . . . but didn’t stay anywhere near as long as I hoped you would.

Instead, you flew by.

Come back, will you?

I miss you.

Did you have a Word of the Year? How are you doing with yours? Leave me a comment . . . I’d love to know.

  1. I don't have a word of the year, but I love the idea! Next year I think my word is going to be "write"...but not blog stuff...I want to try my hand at some real writing :)

  3. I've gone through stages in my life when I wished the days away, stuck in an awful job and just living for the weekend. Recently, I've realised how short life is and we really should live for the moment....sounds cliched but it's true :)
Don't have a word of the year but it's a great idea... will give it some thought.

  8. I do not have a word of the year. If I had to think of one right now to describe these first nine months I think I'd go with "change". It seems like everything has changed. It's good though.

  9. Live was my word. Start living. I fell into a bit of a rut from 2008 - 2009. (Immigration hell - but that is for another time.) Hmm.. Leanne, you are sincerly one of the most creative spirits I know. You share your creativity here with us everyday. Get through the work piece - then come back to us at night, share your thoughts and then go back to the real world. We will be your outlet - happily!

  10. i wished maddie's first year away, but that's because infancy doesn't bode well for my mental stability.

i am quite fond of 'epic.'

  11. I think as much as we try not to wish time away, it keeps going and we have so much to do that we don't get enough moments where we can just stop and be. I think kids are so busy too early these days. I think we all need to try to make time where we just live and not think about what needs to get done. have a great night Leanne!

  12. I did not have a word, but love the concept,so came up with mine. It is PERSERVERANCE. I must perservere through this year to enjoy summer with my family, and a new position next year. I am a teacher (1st grade) this year. I have switched between first and second for 11 yrs. 2nd grade is where I really long to be. So hopefully I will be there next yr. I am thinking positive thoughts!

  13. I find myself feeling that way most days :) I work in reception for a large company, which is hell on earth for an introvert like myself!

My word for the year (although I didn't have one in January, but it's never to late to get in on this, right?!) would be ADAPT. I struggle with change and am working on learning to go with the flow instead of fight it.
